A motorcyclist died after crashing his bike on New Year’s Eve in Vallejo, according to police. Before the crash, the biker was fleeing from the California Highway Patrol and American Canyon Police.

When the collision occurred, only a helicopter CHP unit was in pursuit of the biker.

The chase began around 2:30, Thursday, when American Canyon Police attempted to pull over the cyclist near the Vallejo city limits for reckless driving. A pursuit was initiated after the driver sped away from the police. The cyclist led police through Hanns Park’s bike and walking paths.

When CHP air units engaged the suspect near Mini Drive and Tuolumne Street, the ground pursuit was called off. The CHP helicopter witnessed the driver crashing just outside Hanns Park. 

Members of American Canyon police reengaged and arrived at the crash scene. Emergency personnel at the scene attempted to administer life-saving medical aid to the motorcyclist. He did not respond and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

Family members arrived at the scene a short time later.

Because the crash happened in Vallejo, the city’s police department will be investigating the crash. Solano County Coroner’s Office is handling the motorcyclist’s identification.
